Finding The Right CBD Dosage For You

I have been in search of a CBD product that alleviates my muscle achiness and controls my anxiety. While I really enjoy the psychotropic effects of THC, I am not able to function very well when medicated. I have tried a number of CBD products from a number of different companies without experiencing any benefits. It has occurred to me that I might not be using the right dosage of CBD. This article is about how to determine the best CBD dosage and delivery method for your needs and for mine!

Although one dropper of CBD per day is a commonly recommended dosage, there is no such thing as a “one-size fits all” CBD dosage. Seasoned cannabis users know that there is some trial and error involved in finding the right cannabis product, no matter its cannabis profile. It is no different for a CBD product. There are several factors to take into account when figuring out the correct CBD dosage for you. These include:

  • The condition and its severity that you are treating
  • Your weight
  • Your body chemistry
  • The concentration of CBD
  • Changes over time in your physiology which affect your endocannabinoid system receptors

That being said, you also need to take into account your current health status, your past history of usage of prescription medications and supplements, your metabolism and even your DNA.

Here is how to determine the right CBD dosage for you:

1. Estimate Your Dosage by Your Body Weight

The more you weigh, the more CBD you will need. A good yardstick is to use 1-6mg of CBD for every 10 lbs of weight, factoring in your level of pain. For example: if you weigh between 150-240 lbs, you would use the following pain guide:

  • Mild pain = 18mg
  • Medium pain = 22mg
  • Severe pain = 27mg

It is a good idea to keep a log or journal of your dosage and how your body reacts to the amount of CBD, so you can increase your intake gradually until you find the optimum dosage. That takes us to Step #2:

2. Start With a Low Dosage and Increase Gradually

Follow the above calculation for your weight, keep track of how your body reacts to CBD and increase your dosage gradually until you find your optimum dosage.

But, we aren’t done yet…there’s more

3. Accurately Measuring Your CBD Dosage

This will depend on the delivery method that you choose:

Tincture Dosage

Using a tincture is a pretty simple method of ingesting CBD. You fill the dropper, apply it under your tongue, hold it for 30-90 secs or so and then swallow it. The question is how many drops of CBD oil should you use?

Here is how to determine how much CBD there is in the dropper based on the calculation that there is 1ML of liquid in the dropper.

[Total CBD in Bottle] ÷ [Number of Millimeters in the Bottle] =  MGs of CBD in a Dropper

If you have 30ml tincture of CBD with a total of 1500mg of CBD, then

1500 ÷ by 30 = 50mg of CBD per dropper

If your dosage is 30mg, then you fill the dropper a bit more than halfway.

Vape Dosage

When you vape with CBD, you can use a CBD e-liquid or CBD cartridge method. You use the same calculations as you used for a tincture to gauge how much CBD is in a dropper. Keep track of how much you are putting in the tank. Keep a record of how often you have to refill your tank throughout the day to know how much you use.

CBD Capules

The easiest and most accurate way to to dose with CBD is to use capsules since you know exactly how much CBD is contained in each one.

Also CBD edibles, gummies and beverages have pre-measured amounts, making it much easier to know exactly how much you are consuming.

Breaking News: Illinois Governor Rauner just signed SB 336 into law. This new legislation would allow those who are currently taking opioids or have been prescribed opioids access to a medical cannabis card. It also removes the fingerprinting and background check requirements. Here is a link to information about SB 336.
