Reusing Vaporized Cannabis

What Can I Do With My Already Vaped Buds (AVB)?

One of the biggest complaints about the IL MCPP by medical cannabis patients is the high cost of the medicine. Many patients are disabled and on a fixed income. Getting the most “bang for their buck” is uppermost in their minds. Who knew there were many ways to stretch your medicine by using Already Vaped Bud, known as AVB. This is the cannabis left over after vaporizing it. It is darker and has a different aroma than fresh bud. The taste is definitely not everyone’s “cup of tea” so to speak. In case you were not aware of this, in order to eat/cook with cannabis, it must be decarboxylated first in order to activate the psychoactive cannabinoids. Vaporizing it also decarboxylates it, so you are ready to ingest it without further processing it.

Many people just toss it out, but it can be reused in the following ways:

  • Simply sprinkle it on whatever sandwich you will be eating. Peanut butter does a great job of masking the taste.
  • Mix it into a smoothie
  • Mix it with coconut oil or butter
  • Water Curing
  • Put it in capsules
  • You could smoke it but this isn’t recommended. It tastes bad and you won’t get much of a high from it!

Cannabutter: Grind the ABV bud up finely with a coffee grinder in order to get the maximum benefit from your cannabis. You could water cure it first (see below) to eliminate the burnt flavor, but that would add another time-consuming step to the process.

Mix the AVB in a bowl with butter over a low heat, adding a small amount of water. Stir occasionally and keep it at low heat for a few hours. Let the mixture cool and put it in the fridge for several more hours. The water will separate out with the solid layer of butter at the top and the water at the bottom. Dispose of the water.

Coconut Oil:  Very similar to the recipe for cannabutter, but substitute soy lecithin for water.

Water Curing: You are essentially making tea out of your bud. You can water cure in as little as a few hours and as long as a week. It is a somewhat lengthy process, so in the interest of saving space, here is the link to Water Curing Your AVB

Capsules:  You can fill some empty gel-capsules with AVB. That way you can avoid an unpleasant taste and you can control the dosing.

FYI: If this is your first time using edibles, start with a very low dosage and increase it very slowly from there. It is much more difficult to control the effects via edibles. Here’s something no one talks about, either. You will probably experience farts that smell exactly like cannabis. Enjoy! Please feel free to add any other uses of AVB in the comments below.
