MCC staff cuts ribbon at ceremony

Midwest Compassion Center Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

It was a momentous day for Midwest Compassion Center, as the team was welcomed by Michelle Janurtowski, Executive Director of Romeoville Chamber of Commere, and Mayor John Noak at the Village of Romeoville.

Not long after celebrating one year in operation, MCC was recognized as the newest member of the community of Romeoville. The ceremony began with words of praise from the mayor.

“It’s amazing what you’ve been able to do in integrating security and creating a welcome environment as well,” Mayor Noak said. “It’s like walking into the most secure spa on earth.”

The team was represented by staff member, Andrew Wagner, who explained what MCC is trying to accomplish, and thanked Romeoville for welcoming them into their community.

A majority of their work, Wagner said, is fielding questions. Many Illinois residents don’t know that the pilot program is in effect, or what the qualifying illnesses are. Additionally, prospective patients don’t know the steps of obtaining a medical marijuana card in Illinois, which Andrew admits is a lengthy process.

“They’re required to have a physician certification form…they’re also required background fingerprinting in order to even apply for the card,” Wagner said.

At MCC, the staff offers a variety of medical marijuana methods that can be used, including topicals, transdermals and suppositories. This large supply of administration forms can be daunting. The staff works with each patient to find what form will work best for their specific condition.

The mayor gave credit to the owners for creating a sense of comfort to patients who are seriously ill. He also shared a piece of his personal story at the ceremony. As the son of two disabled parents, he commended the staff for treating their patients in the most welcoming manner possible.

“Many of us have had loved ones in dire situations,” Mayor Noak said. “I applaud you on treating (the patients) in a very sophisticated way that welcomes people.”

After discussing MCC’s operation, the scissors came out and the countdown began.
